Pointe Claire, a quiet area located in The West Island of Montreal is the home of a variety of small companies. There is a West Island, which is often referred to as an independent "island" west of Montreal by people who are unfamiliar with it includes everything east of Lachine. There is an argument that it was the place of birth for Amanda Brugel, but while it's true that she was born there it was not her home. Her time in the city was infrequent. Brugel had a childhood in Courtice near Oshawa, Ontario. She was aspiring to be an instructor in her first year however, due to a rapid growth spurt she surpassed her dance partners. In an article that was published in The Toronto Star that she was 6'1" tall, even when she was wearing heels. Once I had outgrown my male companions and stopped dancing, I quit. Dancers who have been in the past often go into acting. In the case of Brugel it was the support of her drama instructor at high school that led her to take the step she wanted. Her teacher urged her to participate in a school production. After a few auditions, she ended up as the leading lady of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the twenty years since, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows on the big and small screens. Her most notable role attracted interest when she was offered her role as Rita in the award-winning show, The Handmaid's Tale
